I can't believe that I didn't blog at all last year. Actually, I can believe it because 2015 was a year of big changes. Also, it appears that blogging may be on the wane a bit, what with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and all the other social media outlets out there. I have heard that many people are no longer reading blogs. I think our attention spans are getting shorter.
So what happened to me in 2015? I built a new house in a neighboring state! I didn't physically build it myself, of course, but I had to make all the decisions from Day One. I started looking for a builder in April 2014; but it was March of 2015 before actual construction began. I moved into my new home in January 2016. As God is my witness, I'll never move house again! My children will have to carry me out of here feet first!
I lived in my previous home for 35 years and packing all that up was a monumental task. I thought that I had done well on purging my things, but when I realized how many boxes of baby clothes I had, I realized that I had been living in a fool's paradise. Thanks to the help of family and friends, all the packing got done though. The unpacking was even more fun.
I am still settling in. Getting to buy new furniture was fun. Being on the lake and leaving behind the horrendous traffic of a major city has been very stress-relieving! My dedicated office/craft room still needs more organizing, but I have so much STUFF! Still need to purge.
Once I got moved, I had to get my old home ready to sell which entailed more trips back and forth. Fortunately, the old home is in a very desirable area with great schools. Once I got it on the market at the end of March, getting a buyer was no problem. I was relieved to finally close on the sale in early May. Amazingly, I did not cry, and was not particularly sentimental about the place where I lived longer than I had lived anywhere else. I think I had already moved on in my mind and heart, because I am generally the most sentimental person in the room. (That's why I have so much memorabilia in my new closets!)
I love my new town, and I have met so many genuinely friendly people. I am trying to find my place in the universe once again, and to live up to my word for 2016 - renew.
