Buddy was rescued after Hurricane Katrina. He spent a year in a shelter in Forsyth County until he was adopted by my neighbors. He's the friendliest, sweetest cat I've ever seen. So last fall he started hanging around my house and at the house across the street. He never seemed to go home. I started feeding him - big mistake, I know!
As the weather got cooler he was hanging out in my garage at night, so I would leave the garage door open a bit so that he could come and go. Occasionally, a small calico cat would come to visit him. They were obviously friends, so she became known as Sista Girl. And yes, I fed her too.
I tried taking Buddy home several times, but he kept coming back to my house. One night it was pouring down rain and I let him sleep in my son's bedroom. Then the weather got cold and Buddy liked being in the house. My three female cats weren't happy at all, but I kept the bedroom door shut thereby averting much hissing and fighting.
I'm not sure why Buddy's family didn't come looking for him or ask about him, but I've been taking care of him for about six months now. The feline girls still don't like him being in the house. Since the weather has gotten warmer he is back to sleeping in the garage, but he likes to take a daytime nap in the house. Yesterday he made his move and took his nap on MY bed. The girls have been put on notice that Buddy is here to stay.
